The Caring to Survive, Surviving to Care project team will present their experience using PhotoVoice in the presentation “Flowers in wartime: a reflection on the use of the photovoice as a means of capturing the everyday violence(s) of war”.
The presentation will take place on September 1 from 9:15 to 10:45 as part of the session “Informal Work, and Everyday Strategies for Change” at SOR4D Research Conference 2026 in Bern.
PhotoVoice is a participatory research method that gives participants the opportunity to independently record their everyday experiences with photographs and to make sense of social issues through images and their own stories. In our project, this method helps to see what often remains outside the scope of statistics and academic descriptions of war: the daily practices of care, labor, survival, loss, and recovery.
One of the results of this work will be the photo book “Flowers in Wartime”, which will be published as part of the project. The book will combine photographs taken by the participants of the study with their stories and reflections on life and care in the face of full-scale war.
